The Bentley Alaska Tour 2009 is now completed. Various participants have "volunteered" to write accounts of their experiences along the way - these may be viewed in Daily Journal as well as photos from the perspective of different people.
Ian Holdaway of the Bentley Drivers Club of Western
Australia has brought the Rear Ender Award to Vancouver for use on the Bentley
Alaska Tour. The Rear Ender is the damaged tail light of Dennis Lingane's
Bentley and was first presented in 2004. Since then, it has been used in
several events and given out to the most deserving. This event is an international motoring tour held on
behalf of the Bentley Drivers Club – BDC. A group of Bentley motorcars and their crews will
embark on an exciting journey starting in Vancouver, British Columbia. We
expect to cover around 5000 miles of spectacular countryside including vistas
comparable to how one envisions the Garden of Eden. The tour will cover territory featuring mighty snow
capped mountains, rushing rivers of clear sparkling water, and pristine forests
teeming with a wide variety of animals from grizzly bears to moose, mountain
sheep and numerous other smaller animals. One will have an opportunity to stand on glaciers and
travel down paved roads where the only other humans will be your fellow
participants. Accommodation will be of the best available covering a
variety of hotels from the simple to the extravagance of Lake Louise, a grand
hotel built at a time when rail was at its peak. The tour will pass through Whistler – the site of the
2010 Winter Olympics, the Canadian Rockies, Whitehorse and historic town
of Dawson City in the Yukon, where time seems to have stood still since the
Gold Rush days, as well as Anchorage, Alaska. We will sample the Inside Passage
by ferry on the way to the finish in picturesque Victoria. We are planning 25 days of exciting motoring,
spectacular scenery, good fellowship and fun. |
